Accessible play equipment
We fund and install wheelchair-accessible swings in existing public parks — not separate spaces, but the same playground everyone else uses.
the Clara Clements Foundation
We are a family foundation with a single, specific purpose: get accessible swings into the parks where children already are.
“Our mission is to honor the memory of Clara Clements by creating inclusive play spaces in public parks. We are dedicated to providing wheelchair swings, ensuring that children of all abilities have the opportunity to experience the joy and freedom of play. Through our efforts, we aim to promote accessibility, foster community inclusion, and bring smiles to children and families everywhere.”
So all children can experience the joy and freedom of play.
We fund and install wheelchair-accessible swings in existing public parks — not separate spaces, but the same playground everyone else uses.
Inclusive equipment changes who shows up. Families who had stopped coming to the park come back, and children play alongside neighbors they would never otherwise meet.
Every swing we place is installed in Clara's name, in a park a family already loves.
The gap we're closing
Most playgrounds built in the last twenty years have a ramp. Far fewer have anything a child can actually ride. A wheelchair user can get to the equipment and still have nothing to do once they arrive. An accessible swing closes that last gap.
A wheelchair-accessible swing lets a child roll on and ride without being lifted or transferred.
It is used by the whole playground — siblings, grandparents, and children with all kinds of disabilities.
It is the single piece of equipment most often missing from an otherwise accessible park.
The equipment we fund
A wheelchair user rolls directly onto the platform, is secured in place, and swings alongside a friend — no transfer, no lift, no waiting for an adult. It is the model Braintree Parks and Recreation recommended for our first installation.
Roughly $100,000–$130,000 per installation, inclusive of materials, safety surfacing, and installation.
A swing costs more than a family can raise alone. It costs about what a town can raise together.
